Heather Small (born 20 January 1965)

She is probably most famous for being the voice of Manchester based band M People. She was born and raised in West London and joined her first group, Hot House, while she was still a teenager. However after a chance meeting with a Manchester DJ called Mike Pickering, she was soon going to sell over 10 million albums worldwide singing with his group M People. They had some very big hits with songs such as Moving on Up and Search for a Hero.

However in 1998 after M People's 'best of' album, Heather and the band took some time off to pursue solo projects.

In 2000, Heather released her solo album Proud and a single of the same name, this turned out to be the 'unofficial Olympic theme'. This was then followed by another single, Holding on and in November 2000 a duet single with Tom Jones, called You Need Love Like I Do (which can also be found on Tom Jones album Reload).

What marks Heather out as a unique talent in the producer-led R&B environment or the teen-obsessed pop market is not just her unique, weighty voice, but that her song writing retains an inner strength. Although Heather's material is steeped in the influence of stellar R&B names (Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye, Sarah Vaughan, Nina Simone, Gladys Knight and Mavis Staples), it communicates an emotional feeling without encouraging a feeling of despair.

Since 'Proud' Heather has been spending time bringing up her son as well as performing guest spots with the Snake Davis Band and doing a few private shows.

In 2005, Heather's solo single Proud became the official soundtrack for London's 2012 Olympic bid and so another album was released, the album was entitled, M People featuring Heather Small, The Ultimate Collection. It is a collection of the greatest hits of M People and of Heather's solo album. She backed up the release with performances on GMTV, Heaven & Earth, Songs of Praise and Des & Mel as well as many other TV and radio appearances in the UK.

In November 2005, Heather made her U.S. television debut performing Proud at the Oprah Winfrey Show.

Heather recorded her new album on the 1st of March 2006.

The album will be released on the 11th of July and the single will go on sale on the 3rd of July.
